Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon was among protesters arrested in New York during a demonstration against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of his address to the United Nations.
The protest was organised by Jewish Voice for Peace near the UN headquarters, with demonstrators calling for an end to US support for Israel's military campaign.
Police said protesters blocked an intersection and were ordered to leave the area. Those who refused were arrested.
Sarandon was joined by actress Hannah Einbinder, New York City Council member Chi Ossé and other demonstrators.
Photos from the protest showed Sarandon wearing a white T-shirt carrying the message “Fund people, not bombs.”
The actress has previously spoken publicly about the Israel-Gaza conflict and participated in demonstrations criticising Israeli policies.
The arrests came as Netanyahu prepared to address the UN General Assembly, where he defended Israel's military actions in the region.
His appearance also prompted protests inside the UN chamber, with several delegates walking out as he began his speech.
The demonstration in New York adds to the protests surrounding Netanyahu's visit to the city and his appearance before world leaders at the UN.
