Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has described the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) investigation into Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah as a political witch-hunt.
In a self-recorded video, Afia Pokua questioned the manner in which the investigation is being conducted, warning it could create a precedent that future governments may follow against political opponents.
“The rate at which the EOCO is going, it is becoming a big embarrassment to Ghana, and it is becoming so obvious that we have something to hide,” she said.
She further alleged that the pace and approach of the investigation gave the impression that members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) were deliberately targeted.
“And I am pained that if the NPP comes to power, they will do worse because the government has made it so obvious that there is witch-hunting going on. It is becoming so obvious that the government is witch-hunting NPP people,” she added.
Her comments come amid heightened attention on EOCO’s investigation into Baffour Awuah, who is also a senior partner at the law firm Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners.
EOCO has granted the Manhyia South MP GH¢50 million bail with three sureties as investigations into alleged economic and organised crimes continue.
