Suspended National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says he remains calm although disappointed by his suspension.
Speaking in an interview with JoySports, Ampofo Ankrah said he expects the situation to become clearer once the attention surrounding the matter subsides.
“I’m very calm, but a bit disappointed. It is what it is, but I’m very calm and in all things give thanks,” he said.
He said he was looking forward to returning to work when the issues surrounding the suspension are resolved.
“When the dust settles, when there’s calm, when there’s less noise or no noise, we would get to realise that this is the reality and not whatever is being put out there. I’m grateful and looking forward to getting back to work when the time comes,” he added.
Ampofo Ankrah said Sports Minister Kofi Adams had informed him about an ongoing investigation and the decision for him to temporarily step aside.
He stressed that, based on his discussion with the minister, he had not been dismissed from his position.
“I’ve not been sacked. At least that’s not what he told me,” he stated.
The suspended NSA boss also expressed disappointment that he had not yet been allowed to respond to the issues forming the basis of the investigation.
“I’m disappointed that I’ve not been heard. Obviously, I don’t know exactly what the areas would be, but it is still disappointing that we haven’t been able to discuss as to exactly what the whole space is,” he said.
He declined to discuss the allegations involving the 2026 FIFA World Cup and claims of money changing hands in connection with visa facilitation, saying his lawyers had advised him against making public comments that could affect the ongoing investigation.
