New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Kwesi Botchway Jnr has described Kojo Bamba’s election as First Vice Chairman of the party as a development that has unsettled the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, October 5, 2026, he said reactions from some NDC members showed that the party was concerned about the NPP’s new national leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“The election of Kojo Bamba to the national leadership of the NPP has sent a clear and unmistakable signal to the NDC. And the NDC is in panic mode,” he said.

He defended Kojo Bamba’s background, arguing that a person’s academic or professional background should not determine whether they are qualified to contribute to national politics.

“The NPP is a national party. The NPP is a party that belongs to every single Ghanaian, irrespective of your race, religion, academic background, colour, competence or whatever,” he stated.

Kwesi Botchway described Kojo Bamba as a grassroots politician who rose through the party and said his background should not diminish his new position.

“Kojo Bamba is a professional auto mechanic. He has his first degree. He is a grassroots politician. Kojo Bamba just didn't start. He represents the young people,” he added.

He also took issue with criticism of Kojo Bamba’s physique and bodybuilding background, saying physical fitness should not determine a person’s ability to hold political office.

Kwesi Botchway further accused the NDC of applying different standards to assess political figures, citing NDC stalwart Sofu Azorka to make his argument.

“You cannot glorify Sofu Azorka and denigrate Kojo Bamba,” he said.

He called on the NDC to respect the choice made by NPP delegates at the party’s national elections.

“You are no wiser than the NPP delegates who decided to vote for Kojo Bamba. Let’s respect the decision of the political party,” he said.

Kojo Bamba was elected as one of three NPP Vice Chairpersons at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
