Nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe is expected to remain in custody until next week after her bail application could not be heard due to the ongoing Association of Magistrates and Judges’ conference.
According to her lawyer, the conference will continue through the weekend, with the courts expected to resume normal proceedings next Monday.
The development means Baffoe will continue to remain in custody while her legal team waits for the court to hear her application for bail.
Her lawyer, however, raised concerns over the timing of the bail hearing, pointing out that the date had been fixed despite the judges and magistrates’ conference already being scheduled for the same period.
The lawyer questioned why the hearing date was set for a period when the courts would be affected by the conference, resulting in further delay in determining Baffoe’s bail application.
Baffoe’s continued detention has drawn attention as her legal team seeks to secure her release through the bail application.
The courts are expected to return to normal proceedings from Monday next week, when the application can potentially be taken up, subject to the court’s schedule.
The latest development means that, for now, Baffoe will remain in custody until the courts resume next week.
