American singer and actress Selena Gomez has revealed that heavy nicotine vaping has affected the sound of her voice, using her experience to warn fans about the challenges of nicotine addiction.
The 34-year-old star shared the disclosure in a video posted to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, October 18, 2026, where she spoke candidly about her past vaping habit and her efforts to quit.
“I’m not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot,” Gomez said.
She urged people who currently vape or are considering taking up the habit to reconsider, stressing the difficulty of overcoming nicotine dependence.
“Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it, or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it,” she said, adding that the habit had changed her voice.
Gomez also confirmed that she had stopped vaping and expressed hope that she would remain nicotine-free.
“I am really excited because I stopped and I just hope I can keep it up,” she said, acknowledging that quitting had been difficult.
Her comments have drawn attention to the potential health effects of vaping, particularly among young people who may view e-cigarettes as less harmful than traditional cigarettes.
Although research into the long-term effects of vaping is ongoing, health experts have linked e-cigarette use to symptoms including throat irritation, coughing, dryness and breathing difficulties. However, Gomez did not specify the precise changes she believes vaping caused to her voice.
The singer has previously discussed concerns about her vocal changes. During an Instagram question-and-answer session in December 2025, she said her throat sometimes swelled internally.
Gomez has also been open about living with lupus, a chronic autoimmune condition that can affect different parts of the body.
Through her latest disclosure, the Only Murders in the Building star is encouraging fans struggling with nicotine addiction to seek support and persist with efforts to quit.
