Teacher unions have suspended their strike after reaching an agreement with the government on arrangements to address outstanding concerns over promotions, salary adjustments and allowances.
Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Dr George Smith-Graham, said both parties had agreed on the new modalities and signed the document outlining how the issues would be resolved.
Under the agreement, 52,000 teachers who have been promoted are expected to receive their adjusted salaries on October 16, 2026.
The remaining promoted teachers are expected to receive their salary adjustments by the end of October, Dr Smith-Graham said.
He further announced that payments under the collective agreement would begin in January 2027.
The agreement also provides for new allowances for teachers, although details of the allowances were not immediately disclosed.
The suspension follows engagements between the government and the teacher unions to resolve the outstanding issues that prompted the industrial action.
The signed modalities are expected to guide the implementation of the agreed payments and other conditions reached by both parties.
