Traders operating along the pedestrian walkway around the 37 Military Hospital in Accra have been ordered to leave the area within one week or risk having their structures forcibly removed.
The directive was issued by a task force from the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly as part of an exercise to clear unauthorised trading activities and obstructions from the busy stretch.
Officials have already started marking containers and other temporary structures belonging to traders, signalling preparations for the planned clearance exercise.
The affected traders have been instructed to remove their belongings and vacate the walkway before the deadline expires.
The municipal authorities say the exercise is intended to restore the pedestrian space and allow people to use the walkway without obstruction.
The directive comes amid efforts by authorities in parts of Accra to address the increasing use of public spaces for commercial activities, particularly where such activities interfere with pedestrian movement.
Traders who fail to comply with the order are expected to face enforcement action when the task force returns after the one-week period.
Their containers and other structures could be removed as part of the exercise.
The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly has not indicated whether alternative trading spaces will be provided for the affected traders.
The clearance is expected to return the stretch around the hospital to its intended use as a pedestrian walkway and improve movement for people who use the area.
The 37 Military Hospital is located along Liberation Road in Accra and serves both military personnel and members of the general public.
