Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has been granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), according to CitiNewsroom.

The MP reported to EOCO’s premises at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, to assist with investigations into alleged economic and organised crime.

His appearance followed an Accra High Court warrant EOCO obtained after telling the court that previous attempts to secure his attendance for questioning had failed.

The investigation covers allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences.

Baffour Awuah has denied receiving GH¢2.2 million as legal fees and has also disputed aspects of EOCO’s account of its previous attempts to question him.

EOCO has cautioned against concluding the culpability of any individual while the investigation and related judicial processes remain ongoing.

The case has also drawn criticism from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who questioned EOCO’s focus on opposition figures and urged the agency to intensify investigations into financiers and organisers of Ghana-linked drug trafficking networks.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, October 1, the Effutu MP called on EOCO to identify and pursue individuals behind major narcotics networks.

EOCO’s investigation into Baffour Awuah remains ongoing.
