Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has questioned why President John Dramani Mahama is pursuing a broader approach to dealing with incendiary comments instead of first asking US-based Ghanaian commentator Kevin Taylor to stop what he described as verbal attacks on political opponents of the NDC.
Speaking on TV3 on September 23, 2026, Nitiwul suggested that the government could test whether Taylor’s comments are influencing others by asking him to stop and then observing if other social media personalities also stop.
His comments followed President Mahama’s call for a national dialogue on hate speech and digital content.
Nitiwul said social media personality Ghana Jollof has maintained that her comments are a response to Taylor’s remarks and that she would stop if Taylor stopped.
“Let me go back to the first individual, Kevin Taylor, who has led this charge over the last seven years, and then Ghana Jollof has entered into the fray, and others are unfortunately now copying, over the last three months. They all say it's because Kevin Taylor is doing the insulting; that's why they are doing that. If Kevin Taylor stops it, they will all stop,” he argued.
He questioned why the government could not directly engage Taylor and ask him to stop making insulting comments before pursuing other measures.
“So instead of the president organizing all this long way of doing things, why does he not ask Kevin Taylor to stop? Why can't the government just ask Kevin Taylor to stop? …and see whether the others will stop or they will not stop. It's a simple thing,” he said.
Nitiwul maintained that the issue could be addressed more directly rather than through what he considers a longer process.
