The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has announced plans to take legal action against two individuals it says helped Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah evade arrest.
The two individuals were captured in a video circulating on social media actively intervening during EOCO’s attempt to arrest the MP on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
EOCO said it is assessing the individuals' conduct and will take appropriate legal steps against them for allegedly facilitating Baffour Awuah’s escape.
The Office said its officers were carrying out a lawful operation when they attempted to arrest the MP as part of an ongoing investigation. EOCO added that the situation escalated, forcing its officers to withdraw to avoid putting public safety at risk.
The investigative body said it is reviewing video evidence from the incident to determine its next steps.
EOCO also disclosed that Baffour Awuah had been invited twice in February 2026 to assist with an investigation but failed to honour both invitations.
The Office said the investigation remains active and assured the public that all further action would be taken in accordance with the law.
