Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has left his position as head coach of the Black Stars after Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Queiroz have mutually agreed to terminate his service agreement following discussions between both parties.
In a statement published by the GFA, Queiroz said the decision was not easy, but both sides agreed that ending their working relationship was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances.
“Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he said.
The coach thanked the GFA, its President, his technical staff and the Black Stars players for their support during his time in charge.
Queiroz also urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the players and expressed confidence in their potential.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he said.
The decision follows Ghana’s defeats in their opening two AFCON qualifying matches. The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d'Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia currently lead Group C with six points each, while Ghana and Somalia have no points after two matches.
The GFA has yet to announce who will take charge of the Black Stars on an interim basis.
