Lawyer for detained nurse Salomey Awity Baffoe, Enoch Afoakwa, has warned that the court and government could be held accountable if his client’s health worsens while she remains in custody.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Mr Afoakwa said Baffoe had repeatedly complained of feeling unwell and was visibly sick when she appeared in court.
He said she complained of dizziness during the proceedings, forcing the court to order that a swivel chair be provided for her.
“So, if anything happens to her, we would hold the court and the government accountable,” he said.
Mr Afoakwa also complained about his limited access to his client, saying he could only speak to her from the counter because she remains in the cell.
“I still don’t have proper access to her because she is in a cell and I can only talk to her from the counter,” he said.
The lawyer said he expected the court to consider Baffoe’s health when it ordered her remand, especially after she pleaded not guilty to the charge against her.
He said the court should have allowed her to receive medical care while in custody.
Baffoe is facing a charge of abetment of crime, relating to the alleged publication of false news, over her alleged links to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
Police allege that she helped Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, who is believed to be in the United Kingdom, distribute videos and recruit others to circulate the content.
Police also say a forensic examination of Baffoe’s phone and mobile money records revealed alleged financial links between the two women.
Baffoe has pleaded not guilty. Her lawyers have also filed a bail application at the High Court, which is scheduled to be heard on September 23.
