Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has called for a collective effort within the country’s music industry to help Ghanaian music gain greater recognition on the global stage.
Speaking on the Afternoon Show, the award-winning artiste said it was unrealistic to expect one musician to carry the entire Ghanaian music industry internationally. He argued that sustained global growth would require collaboration and a united effort from artistes and other industry players.
“It can never be the work of an individual artiste. There’s only so much one person can do; we need people and collective motion in the industry,” he said.
Black Sherif also questioned comparisons between Ghana’s music industry and those of other countries, suggesting that the expectations surrounding Ghana’s international breakthrough should take into account the differences between the various music markets.
He further spoke about his current musical direction, describing it as a reintroduction of himself and an expression of the different layers of his musical journey.
According to the artiste, his sound has evolved through different stages, from his early days in 2019 and high school to the music he made during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His comments come amid continued discussions about how Ghanaian artistes can strengthen the country’s presence in international music markets.
Black Sherif said the industry’s ambitions would require artistes and stakeholders to move together rather than relying on the success of individual musicians.
