Lawyer for detained nurse Salomey Awity Baffoe, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has denied claims that his client received money from the person allegedly operating the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
Speaking on Citi FM on September 22, 2026, Mr Baffour Awuah said Baffoe had neither received money to recruit people nor provided funds to anyone to support activities linked to the account.
“My client has never received money to recruit anybody or has never given money to anybody to recruit someone,” he said.
His comments follow allegations by the Ghana Police Service that Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom the Police identify as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, sent money to Baffoe in Ghana.
According to the Police, the money was allegedly intended to facilitate the production, publication and distribution of online content associated with the account.
They further alleged that Baffoe later shared portions of the money with others who helped circulate videos Kodua produced on social media.
The Police said the allegations were based on evidence obtained from forensic examinations of Baffoe’s mobile phone, including audio and video files, as well as mobile money transaction records.
However, Mr Baffour Awuah has questioned the credibility of some of the information disclosed by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Donkor, during a press briefing on the case.
“The CID Director-General came out and then did a press conference and put out certain information. I want to say that that information is doubtful in nature,” he said.
The lawyer also disputed any suggestion that his client knew the person behind the account named “Jollof”. He said he would focus on the specific allegations against Baffoe rather than speculate about who operates the account.
“So let me say this here, my client has never known anybody called Jollof. You don’t have to know by that name. You can know the person by their real name,” he said.
Baffoe, who has been charged with abetment of crime over the alleged publication of false news, has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody after being remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court. She is expected to reappear in court on September 30 as investigations continue.
