Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been elected National Chairman of the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to the Electoral Commission (EC), John Boadu polled 2,888 votes to defeat his closest contender, Boakye Agyarko, who secured 2,408 votes.

The election was held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi as the NPP elected new national executives as part of its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 elections. More than 7,000 delegates participated in the exercise.


John Boadu has had a long career within the NPP and is described as the longest-serving National Officer in the party’s history. He has held several positions at the national headquarters, including National Finance Officer, National Youth Treasurer, National Youth Organiser, Deputy National Communications Director, National Organiser and General Secretary.


Before rising to the national level, he also served the party at the grassroots, holding positions including Polling Station Chairman, Constituency Secretary and Regional Research and Elections Officer.


In his first address as National Chairman, Boadu called on party members to unite and work together to recapture political power in the 2028 general elections.


He delivered the address on behalf of all the newly elected national executives.
