Former Home Improvement star Jonathan Taylor Thomas was detained by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies following a traffic stop in Westlake Village, California.
According to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ, the 45-year-old actor was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by deputies shortly after midnight on Monday, September 21. He reportedly exited the vehicle after being instructed to remain inside and became uncooperative with officers.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said deputies were conducting a DUI investigation involving the driver when Thomas allegedly approached them. Authorities say he resisted attempts to detain him and allegedly kicked a deputy in the stomach.
Thomas was booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of felony obstruction and public intoxication. Jail records indicate he was released on Tuesday.
Reports differ slightly on the status of the case. NBC Los Angeles reported that the matter would be presented to county prosecutors for consideration of criminal charges, while the Los Angeles Times reported that no formal criminal complaint had been filed and that the incident had subsequently been classified as a detention rather than an arrest.
The driver of the vehicle was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
