Residents of La have staged a demonstration to protest the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, demanding government intervention to restore the livelihoods of affected traders and workers.

The protest, dubbed “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo”, was organised by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front to express residents’ displeasure with the demolition and its impact on people who depend on the beach for their income.

Former Greater Accra Regional Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Titus Glover joined the demonstration, where he poured libation, calling on traditional deities to intervene in the matter.

Addressing the protesters, Mr Glover appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the affected traders are allowed to return to the site and resume their businesses.

“We, the youth of the Ga-Dangme people, are saying that enough is enough. So we want to register our plea with the President to intervene and get the traders back to the place,” he said.

He also urged the President to protect the rights of the affected Ga-Dangme people and help address the economic hardship caused by the demolition.

The demolition exercise was carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a request by Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Affected traders and workers say the demolition has disrupted their businesses and cut off their sources of income. They are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to allow them to return to the site.
