Madina Member of Parliament Francis-Xavier Sosu collapsed while delivering a speech at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The incident occurred as the lawmaker was addressing an audience on his personal journey, leadership and experiences in public service. He was speaking from the podium when he appeared to become unwell and suddenly lost consciousness.
People at the venue quickly moved to assist him as he appeared to slump. Sosu briefly regained composure but subsequently appeared to lose consciousness again and was helped away from the stage for medical attention.
Moments before the incident, the Madina MP had been speaking about the importance of service in leadership.
“I respectfully submit that if you want to be a good leader, let service be your hallmark,” he said.
The circumstances surrounding the collapse were initially unclear, with reports at the time providing no information about what caused the incident.
However, a later statement from Sosu’s office said the MP had received the necessary medical attention and was doing well.
“We wish to assure the general public, constituents, supporters, and well-wishers that Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu is doing well and has received the necessary medical attention,” the statement said.
His office also appealed to the public to remain calm and rely on official updates concerning his condition.
The incident has since attracted widespread attention, with footage of the MP collapsing during the address circulating on social media.
