President John Dramani Mahama has approved the recruitment of 1,200 additional staff for the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to address staffing shortages and strengthen the agency’s operations.
Majority Leader and Builsa North MP, James Agalga, announced the approval on Thursday, September 24, 2026, saying the recruitment will help NACOC expand its operations across the country.
He said the government’s decision is aimed at providing the Commission with enough personnel to support its growing network of district commands and improve its presence in communities and at border points.
“His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s government has approved the recruitment of another 1,200 staff for NACOC, a bold and consistent move that will go a long way to fill the deficit in the Commission’s staffing,” Mr Agalga said.
The Majority Leader also pointed to the government’s earlier efforts to increase NACOC’s workforce, noting that 495 new officers were trained in 2025.
“This government has more than doubled NACOC’s staff, training 495 new officers in 2025 alone, the largest number of officers to ever graduate from NACOC,” he stated.
Mr Agalga said the latest recruitment should translate into greater operational coverage for NACOC, particularly in areas vulnerable to drug trafficking.
“This isn’t just a number. It’s the difference between an agency that can respond and an agency that can be there in communities, at borders, along the path traffickers go to exploit,” he added.
The recruitment comes as Ghana continues efforts to strengthen its fight against narcotics trafficking.
