Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has appeared before the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), accompanied by his lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, a day after a court issued a warrant for his arrest.

His appearance on Thursday, October 1, follows weeks of tension between the legislator and the anti-graft agency over an investigation involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

The Accra High Court issued the warrant on Wednesday after EOCO told the court that its attempts to secure Baffour Awuah’s voluntary attendance had been unsuccessful.

The agency also obtained authority to search for and seize documents relevant to the investigation.

EOCO has linked the case to alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life, with suspected offences including financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.

The latest development follows a failed attempt by EOCO officers to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court on September 23.

EOCO says Baffour Awuah was invited twice in February 2026 but did not honour the invitations.

The MP has disputed this, arguing that the invitations were connected to his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life.

He said the matter was referred to the Clerk to Parliament, after which a representative of the firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and submitted the information requested by investigators, including a written statement.

The allegations remain under investigation.
