The Ghana Police Service has provided an update on the alleged rape case involving Obuasi SHTS headmaster Zakaria Abdulai, confirming that the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for legal advice.
In a press release dated October 16, 2026, the police said the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Bekwai, Ashanti South Region, had submitted the case file for review and advice on the next steps.
According to the police, a 20-year-old Form Two student reported the alleged incident on August 4, accompanied by her father. She alleged that Abdulai had sexually assaulted her on July 25, 2026, at his official bungalow on the school campus.
The complainant told investigators that she had gone to a spot near the headmaster’s residence to remove her dress when he allegedly asked her to run an errand for him. She alleged that after entering the residence, he made unwanted advances towards her before dragging her into his bedroom and sexually assaulting her.
The police statement further alleged that the student was given GH¢100 after the incident and told to keep quiet.
Police said investigations included a medical examination, reconstruction of the scene, photographs and witness statements before the case file was forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office.
The service assured the public that it was committed to pursuing the case and would spare no effort in establishing the facts.
The case has attracted public attention amid wider concerns over allegations of sexual abuse involving students at the school. Abdulai has not been convicted of the allegations.
