The Ghana Police Service has forwarded the case involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice following investigations into an alleged rape complaint.

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, based in Bekwai, submitted the docket for review and further action, according to a police statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Police said a 20-year-old Form Two student, accompanied by her father, lodged a complaint on August 4, alleging that the headmaster had sexually assaulted her at his official residence on the school’s campus on July 25.

According to the complaint, the student had gone to retrieve clothes from an area near the residence when the headmaster allegedly asked her to perform an errand inside. She claimed he then sexually assaulted her despite her resistance and later gave her GH¢100 to keep the incident secret.

The allegations have not been established in court.

Police said investigators had completed several procedures, including a medical examination, reconstruction and photography of the scene, and the collection of witness statements, before forwarding the docket to the Attorney-General’s Office.

The development follows a directive by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu for the headmaster’s suspension pending investigations. The Ghana Education Service subsequently interdicted Abdulai to facilitate the inquiry.

The allegations have also drawn wider attention following an investigative report by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, which highlighted claims of sexual abuse involving students at the school.
