The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has ruled out taking disciplinary action against senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe for now, saying her ongoing court case must first be resolved.
According to the Association, the allegations against Salomey are not connected to her duties as a nurse, meaning they do not immediately fall within the scope of professional disciplinary action.
GRNMA Deputy Public Relations Officer, Philemon Gyapong made the clarification during an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday, September 25.
He explained that the Association’s disciplinary processes are generally triggered by matters involving a nurse’s professional conduct or incidents connected to their workplace.
“In this case, it didn’t happen in the hospital neither was it because of professional conduct,” he said.
Salomey is currently facing a criminal case involving allegations related to the transmission or forwarding of information. Her application for bail has been rejected by the High Court, with the court raising concerns including possible interference with electronic evidence.
Philemon Gyapong said the Association would not attempt to determine the merits of the allegations while the case remains before the judiciary.
“She is innocent until proven guilty professionally,” he said.
Gyapong said any question about possible professional consequences would only be considered after the court has reached a determination.
“Allow her to go through the process and trial and then we’ll take it up from there,” he added.
