Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene has urged newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executives to prioritise reconciliation and bring all party members together following the party’s internal elections.
He said the successful candidates must look beyond their victories and work towards rebuilding relationships with contestants who lost, stressing that unity would be essential as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Dr Amoakohene made the call during a monitoring tour of constituencies holding their elections, including Asawase, where he encouraged party members to put disagreements behind them and focus on strengthening the NDC.
He acknowledged that winners had every reason to celebrate but said the next step should be to engage their opponents and close divisions created during the campaigns.
According to him, the party’s future depends on its ability to combine the experience of longstanding members with the energy of newly elected executives.
“We are having a good blend of institutional memory and a good blend of new energies that are ready to champion the affairs of the government and the party moving into 2028,” he said.
Dr Amoakohene added that the new executives had a responsibility to maintain the party’s electoral performance and build on its previous achievements.
He said the constituency elections should be viewed as a collective victory for the NDC rather than a contest that leaves lasting divisions among members.
His remarks come as the party completes constituency-level elections to select executives who will oversee grassroots mobilisation and local organisation ahead of the next general elections.
The minister urged newly elected leaders to begin reconciliation efforts promptly, stressing that bringing supporters together would help the party strengthen its structures and prepare for the political challenges ahead.
