Commercial transport operators in Ghana have announced a nationwide suspension of services on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in protest against what they describe as the government’s failure to enforce regulations governing the use of bus stops and pedestrian walkways.
The planned action involves the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC, Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana, True Drivers Union, Committed Drivers Association of Ghana and Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana.
In a public announcement dated November 1, the groups directed all commercial drivers to park their vehicles from Wednesday until further notice.
They said the decision followed the government's failure to enforce Regulation 142 of L.I. 2519, which prohibits trading at bus stops and on pedestrian walkways.
The transport groups also questioned why authorities were introducing the TraffiTech-GH digital traffic enforcement system to penalise drivers while traders continued to occupy spaces designated for loading and unloading passengers.
“We cannot operate in bus stops occupied by traders and still be fined by cameras,” the announcement stated.
The groups apologised to commuters and the general public for the inconvenience the action would cause, insisting that they had been left with no option.
