The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says it has contained a yellow fever outbreak after confirming four cases in parts of the country between September and the first half of October 2026.

The cases were recorded in Sissala West, Wa West, Etu and Nadowli-Kaleo. Samples from suspected cases were sent to Dakar, Senegal, for laboratory confirmation.

Speaking on TV3, GHS Director-General Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea said health authorities had introduced vaccination interventions to prevent further spread of the disease.

“We had an outbreak of yellow fever, but it has been curtailed. Between September and the first half of October, we recorded cases, more than two in this case, that were confirmed from Dakar,” he said.

Dr Akoriyea said four cases had been officially confirmed, adding that the vaccination exercise formed part of the measures taken to contain the outbreak.

He also said the Service was investigating reports of deaths in some affected communities to establish whether they were linked to yellow fever.

The investigation follows speculation that the reported deaths may have been caused by the disease, but the GHS has yet to establish a connection.
