The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) is preparing to roll out a new range of ultra-thin condoms from Friday, November 6, following feedback from users about the comfort and suitability of its existing products.

The new range is expected to feature improved elasticity, durability and lubrication, with different sizes intended to better meet the needs of Ghanaian men.

Speaking on JoyNews on Thursday, November 5, the Commission’s Director-General, Dr Kharmacelle Prosper Akanbong, said the products were developed in response to complaints received during previous user assessments.

He said the Commission had worked to improve comfort and acceptability while ensuring that the condoms retained their quality and effectiveness.

“These condoms will be ultra-thin, with good user acceptability, comparable to other commercial ultra-thin condoms in the market. We took into consideration user complaints in our previous assessment, and the new ones that are coming would satisfy most of the user complaints,” he said.

Dr Akanbong added that the condoms had been designed with improved features to enhance the overall user experience.

The first batch is expected to undergo approval by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) before distribution begins.

Once cleared, the Commission will supply the products to its stakeholders and other distribution centres for public access.

Dr Akanbong said the condoms could be available from Friday, November 6, or Monday, November 9, depending on the FDA’s approval and release process.
