The National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mavis Hawa Koomson, has given the government until the end of November 2026 to take decisive action over alleged sexual abuse involving students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
Speaking on GhanAkoma on Friday, November 6, during a demonstration by the NPP Women’s Wing in Obuasi, Madam Koomson said the group would petition President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Ministry of Gender and the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive.
She warned that further action would be taken if the authorities failed to address their concerns before the November deadline.
Madam Koomson stressed that the group remained committed to securing justice for the affected students, insisting that the matter must not be allowed to fade without accountability.
She also questioned why the school's headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, remained free while teachers reportedly implicated in the case had been remanded for two weeks.
According to her, the headmaster's interdiction alone was insufficient and called for swift action from law enforcement authorities.
The controversy follows allegations of sexual misconduct involving 19 female students at the school, sparking public concern and renewed calls for stronger protection of students in educational institutions.
The NPP Women's Wing says it will continue pressing authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and accountability for anyone found culpable.
