The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has introduced strict electoral guidelines for its forthcoming regional elections, banning proxy voting and placing the Ghana Police Service in sole charge of security at all voting centres.

The new directives, contained in a statement issued on November 5 and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, are aimed at ensuring a credible, transparent and peaceful electoral process.

Under the guidelines, all eligible delegates must be physically present at their respective polling centres to cast their ballots. The party has ruled out any arrangement that allows individuals to vote on behalf of others.

The NDC has also outlined three acceptable forms of identification for delegates. These include a valid party identification card, an official accreditation document or an embossed photograph captured in the approved voters’ register.

Voting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. However, delegates who are already in the queue at the official closing time will be permitted to vote.

On security, the party has assigned exclusive responsibility for maintaining order at all election centres to the Ghana Police Service.

It has further prohibited personal security details accompanying government officials and other individuals from entering designated voting areas.

The NDC has urged aspirants, delegates, supporters and election officials to observe the rules and demonstrate discipline and restraint throughout the exercise.

The party says cooperation among stakeholders will be critical to protecting the credibility of the elections and maintaining unity.
