Work on the 23-kilometre Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase road is set to resume on Thursday, September 24, after the Ministry of Roads and Highways issued a Commencement Authorisation Letter to the contractor.
The project, which has been stalled for years, is currently about 27% complete, with its poor condition raising concerns among residents and motorists who depend on the route.
The road connects several communities, including Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase, while also providing access towards Peduase and Aburi.
Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza, speaking during a meeting with the contractor and chiefs from affected communities, said the contractor has been given 18 months to complete the project.
He said the renewed authorisation forms part of government’s efforts to revive stalled road projects and ensure they are completed within defined timelines.
The Minister also instructed the contractor to fully mobilise to the site and maintain a consistent pace of work.
He cautioned against a situation where construction activities resume temporarily before coming to another halt, stressing that residents must see sustained progress once work begins.
The development follows growing concerns over the state of the road, which has affected movement for residents, traders, workers and other road users in the surrounding communities.
The government has previously identified the rehabilitation of the Dome-Kitase Road among projects requiring continued attention, with official budget documents showing the project at 27% progress as of September 2025.
