New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant John Boadu has placed the party’s 2028 electoral campaign at the centre of his agenda, saying longer-term political ambitions should take a back seat for now.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, the former NPP General Secretary said the party’s immediate responsibility was to rebuild its structures, restore confidence among members and prepare for the next general election.
“My focus is victory in 2028. Those with Agenda 2032 can wait,” Mr Boadu stated.
He said the NPP needed leadership with experience in party organisation and election management as it prepares for its national executive elections on October 3.
Mr Boadu pointed to his previous roles within the party, including serving as Acting General Secretary and Director of Operations, and cited his involvement in the NPP’s 2016 and 2020 election campaigns.
According to him, his experience includes helping introduce systems such as the Pink Sheet Tracking System, rapid results collation, training for polling agents, mock elections and the V16 volunteer-based election protection structure.
He argued that the party’s immediate priority should be strengthening its grassroots structures and electoral organisation rather than focusing on political calculations beyond the 2028 election.
“Whatever longer-term ambitions others may hold, our immediate task is to rebuild the Party, restore confidence, strengthen our structures and win back power,” he said.
Mr Boadu is one of the candidates seeking to become the NPP’s next National Chairman, with delegates scheduled to vote on October 3.
He has presented his experience across the party’s polling station, constituency, regional and national structures as part of his case for the position.
“I have walked the road to victory before. Let us walk it again, together,” he said, while urging delegates to support his bid for National Chairman.
