Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni says he has been sued for defamation by the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai.
Mr Azure announced the lawsuit in a post on X, formerly Twitter, describing it as the 12th defamation suit brought against him in 11 years.
“The interdicted Obuasi SHTS headmaster has sued me for defamation. This is the 12th defamation suit in 11 years. Manasseh abrɛ,” he wrote.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, October 22, the journalist indicated that his lawyers would handle the matter.
The lawsuit follows Mr Azure’s investigative report, titled Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow, which brought allegations of sexual abuse involving Abdulai into the public domain.
The headmaster was subsequently interdicted by the Ghana Education Service as investigations continued.
Abdulai also stepped down as Juaben Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and withdrew his bid for the constituency chairmanship amid pressure from the party following the allegations.
In an update on the criminal investigation, the police have confirmed that the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice.
Mr Azure’s post did not disclose the specific claims made in the defamation suit or the reliefs being sought by Abdulai.
