Ghanaian rapper Okese1 has announced that he is ending the Amotia Geng movement, which helped establish his identity in the music industry, citing concerns that the brand conflicts with his faith in God.
The musician, known for his hit song Yie Yie, made the announcement in a post on social media on Monday, October 12, explaining that his renewed commitment to God influenced the decision.
“No More Amotia Geng!” he declared, adding that although the movement had the potential to become one of the biggest in the country, he felt it was blasphemous.
“As someone who believes in God sooo much I had to stop putting it on the Map! … NO OTHER REASON … ON GOD!” he wrote.
The decision marks a significant shift for the rapper, who built much of his public identity around the Amotia Geng brand following his breakthrough in 2020.
The movement became associated with his music, personal image and a group of friends who embraced the name as a symbol of brotherhood and confidence.
The announcement has generated conversations among fans about the relationship between the musician’s artistic identity and his religious convictions.
Okese1 has not provided further details about how the decision will affect his music, business interests or other activities associated with the brand.
His announcement comes as a number of public figures continue to speak openly about the influence of personal beliefs on their careers and lifestyles.
