The High Court in Accra has adjourned the bail application of Salomey Baffoe, who is accused of abetting the publication of false information linked to social media personality Ghana Jollof, to September 24.
The case was adjourned after the prosecution asked for more time to respond to the defence’s bail application.
Assistant State Attorney Carl Afedzi Forson told the court that he was not the substantive lawyer handling the case and had been informed that the Attorney-General’s Office received the bail application on Friday.
He explained that Monday was a public holiday, leaving the application yet to be assigned to a lawyer for a response.
Counsel for Baffoe, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, opposed the adjournment, arguing that the application involved his client’s liberty and should be dealt with urgently.
He said there was evidence that the prosecution had been served and argued that the State had enough time to respond.
The lawyer also warned that another delay could undermine the purpose of the bail application, as Baffoe would have spent two weeks in custody by the time the prosecution filed its response.
The court acknowledged that Baffoe’s liberty was at stake and cautioned the State against taking the matter lightly.
It subsequently directed the Republic to file and serve any processes it intends to rely on by 9:00 a.m. on September 24. Salomey Baffoe remains in custody pending the court’s decision on her bail application.
