Staff of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) have received a 30 per cent salary increase, the refinery’s Managing Director, Edmond Kombat, has announced, ending a 10-year period without salary adjustments.
Mr Kombat disclosed the development at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 26, 2026, saying the increase followed negotiations between management and the relevant unions to improve workers’ remuneration and welfare.
He said the adjustment was part of broader efforts to address longstanding staff concerns and improve conditions at the state-owned refinery.
Management has also reviewed more than 300 petitions submitted by employees, according to Mr Kombat. The process increased the refinery’s wage bill by 10 per cent, an additional cost he said the company had managed to absorb.
“We also addressed more than 300 staff petitions. It increased our wage bill by 10 percent but we were able to shoulder it,” he said.
He added that the 30 per cent salary adjustment was necessary because employees had not received an increase in a decade, making negotiations with the unions an important part of the process.
Beyond staff welfare, the TOR managing director said the refinery had secured a more consistent supply of crude oil to support its operations, addressing earlier challenges with feedstock availability.
According to Mr Kombat, the refinery had received five million barrels of crude oil, with further supplies scheduled for each month over the next six months.
He said the steady supply had helped the plant resume more consistent operations.
The developments form part of management’s wider efforts to restore the refinery’s operations and address challenges that have affected the facility in recent years.
