The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who completed the 2025/2026 academic year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 to withdraw from their programmes.
The directive, announced by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate on Thursday, October 22, is based on Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the requirements for academic progression.
Under the regulation, students must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to advance to the next level.
The Directorate explained that the regulations do not provide for academic probation. Students whose CGPAs remain below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released are therefore required to withdraw.
Affected students have been advised to check their academic standing through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web before initiating the withdrawal process.
They must then log in to the Student and Staff Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN, and select the “Withdrawal Request” option.
The university noted that, for certain programmes, the relevant school or department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students who need clarification about their academic status or the withdrawal procedure have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
