Yorkshire Wildlife Park in England remains closed following the death of a man who was fatally attacked by a tiger after entering its enclosure.

Emergency services were called to the attraction near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, at about 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, after reports that the man had climbed down from a visitor walkway into the animal’s enclosure.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by medical personnel. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

The incident prompted the evacuation of the wildlife park as police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

An eyewitness reportedly saw the man wearing headphones and moving around near the enclosure before entering it. Authorities have not publicly established why he went into the restricted area.

The park has confirmed that the Amur tiger involved in the incident, named Altai, will not be euthanised. In a statement, management said the animal remained in its enclosure and was safe and well.

The clarification followed messages from members of the public expressing concern about the tiger’s future. The park also said staff who witnessed or responded to the incident had been deeply affected and would receive specialist support.

South Yorkshire Police have urged the public not to share distressing footage of the attack circulating online, asking people to respect the victim’s family during a difficult period.

The park said it was cooperating with the authorities as enquiries continued. It had announced that it would remain closed on Sunday, October 11, while the situation was addressed.
