Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced plans to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, the former Deputy Majority Leader said her decision followed consultations with party leaders, executives and other stakeholders, alongside personal reflection on her commitment to the constituency.
Adwoa Safo said she would formally present herself for consideration once the NPP announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad based engagement with party leadership and executives,” she said, she had decided to seek the party’s nomination again, citing her loyalty to the party’s principles and values.
Her announcement marks a change from her earlier position that she intended to pursue opportunities beyond Dome-Kwabenya.
Explaining the decision, she said she had come to appreciate the responsibility of representing the interests and aspirations of the constituency’s residents.
“There is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in Parliament,” she stated.
Adwoa Safo represented Dome-Kwabenya for 12 years before leaving Parliament. She said she believed she still had more to contribute to the area’s development, particularly in creating opportunities for young people, supporting families and addressing residents’ concerns.
She also appealed to NPP members, local stakeholders and constituents to engage with her as discussions about the constituency’s future leadership continue.
Her declaration sets the stage for a possible contest for the NPP nomination as the party prepares for the 2028 elections. The party is yet to announce the timetable and guidelines for the primaries.
