The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has given traders occupying unauthorised bus stops across the metropolis 48 hours to vacate the locations ahead of a renewed enforcement exercise.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Assembly said the directive was intended to restore order and ensure that public spaces designated for vehicles and pedestrians were used appropriately.
The AMA said the occupation of bus stops by hawkers had been obstructing commercial drivers, disrupting the movement of pedestrians and contributing to traffic congestion. It also warned that commuters forced to board and alight from vehicles at unsafe points faced an increased risk of road accidents.
The Assembly said Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey had already initiated enforcement operations, leading to the removal of traders from unauthorised spaces around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Achimota and parts of the Central Business District.
It has urged all traders to comply with the 48-hour directive and warned that those who continue to occupy designated bus stops will face enforcement action under the Assembly’s by-laws.
The AMA also cautioned traders against returning to locations that have been cleared, warning that anyone found reoccupying the spaces could face prosecution.
The Assembly said it would intensify its efforts to maintain public order, improve road safety and ensure the proper use of public spaces across Accra.
