The Ashaiman District Court has remanded a 32-year-old ex-convict, Atsu Kudiabor Issaka, into police custody after he was accused of posing as a soldier and allegedly extorting money from residents.
Kudiabor was arraigned on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after the Tema Regional Police Command charged him with falsely pretending to be a public officer, stealing and possessing a military camouflage uniform.
The court, presided over by His Honour Derick Parden Eshun, did not take his plea after the charges and facts were read to him by prosecutor Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey.
He is expected to reappear before the court on September 29, 2026.
Police said Kudiabor was arrested on September 16 at about 7:00 a.m. in an area known as “I Shall Return” in Ashaiman, where he was allegedly parading himself as a soldier and demanding money from residents.
He was initially apprehended by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, with assistance from members of the public, before being handed over to the police. A search reportedly led to the recovery of a set of military camouflage uniform.
Police had earlier identified Kudiabor as an ex-convict and cautioned the public to be vigilant against individuals who falsely claim to be members of the security services to deceive or extort money.
The case remains under investigation.
