Several digital health information systems operated by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) have reportedly been shut down nationwide following an outstanding cloud-hosting bill of US$64,510.
The disruption has affected digital platforms used by health facilities to manage patient information and support administrative operations, raising concerns about the impact on healthcare delivery across the country.
According to reports, the shutdown followed a failure to settle payments owed for cloud-hosting services, which support the storage and operation of the GHS digital platforms.
The affected systems form part of Ghana's efforts to modernise healthcare administration through digital technology, allowing medical personnel to access and manage information more efficiently.
The interruption could create difficulties for health workers who depend on these platforms to retrieve records, process information and coordinate services, particularly in facilities where digital systems have become part of routine operations.
The reported debt of US$64,510 has also raised questions about the management and sustainability of technology infrastructure within the public health sector.
