The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has said he has the right to contest the Korley Klottey parliamentary seat but has not decided to do so in 2028.
The seat is currently held by his fellow National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings.
Speaking in a recent interview on Starr FM, Mr Neequaye Kotey said he is an indigene of the constituency and has served the NDC there for several years.
“If I'm eyeing that seat, it is not against any law. I have the right to go and contest for the seat. This is my third term as a constituency executive,” he said.
He also listed his various roles in the party, saying he started as a branch secretary at age 17 and later served as a branch chairman, deputy constituency communications officer, constituency communications officer and vice chairman.
“If I want to contest for that seat, I'm free; I am good enough to do it,” he added.
However, Mr Neequaye Kotey said he is not planning to contest the seat in 2028, although he did not rule out a future bid.
“But I've said, and I've said it over and over again, that in 2028, I am not contesting. I don't know if the Lord will change my mind for the subsequent years, but for 2028 I'm not… even 2028, never say never, I can decide to. I don't break any law,” he said.
He also asked Dr Agyeman Rawlings not to worry about him challenging her.
“So Dr Zanetor should relax. The way she's going around, she should relax. I'm not coming to contest her. She should relax,” he added.
