President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 1,238-acre industrial park at Afienya, aimed at expanding Ghana’s manufacturing sector, attracting investors and creating jobs.
The facility is expected to host more than 120 enterprises, with infrastructure including electricity, water supply, road networks and waste treatment facilities to support businesses setting up factories and starting production.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 15, President Mahama said the project would address the growing demand for industrial space after available land at the Tema Export Processing Zone was exhausted.
He said the new park would provide additional room for companies seeking to establish manufacturing operations in Ghana and support the government’s wider industrialisation drive.
The President also disclosed that the proposed $10 billion New Economy Programme would help fund infrastructure development at the industrial park.
The project forms part of the government’s efforts to increase local production, reduce dependence on imported goods and expand exports.
It is also expected to strengthen Ghana’s industrial base and create employment opportunities through the establishment and growth of businesses at the site.
