The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed Mr Zakaria Abdulai to step aside from his candidacy in the Juaben Constituency to allow for an unhindered investigation into allegations against him.
The decision was announced in a press release dated October 20, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
According to the statement, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) took the decision after further consideration of the matter, stressing the need to protect transparency and accountability within the party.
“After further consideration, FEC has directed that Mr Zakaria Abdulai step aside, in the overriding interest of transparency and accountability, to allow for an unhindered investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service,” the statement said.
The party emphasised that the directive should not be interpreted as a determination of the merits of the allegations against Abdulai.
“This position is taken in good faith and is in no way a determination of the merits of the allegations against Mr Abdulai, who remains entitled to the presumption of innocence,” the statement added.
The NDC expressed confidence that the CID would conduct a thorough, fair and expeditious investigation, promising to be guided by the outcome.
The Ashanti Regional Election Committee and the Juaben Constituency Election Committee have also been directed to take note of the decision and act accordingly.
The latest development follows an earlier party statement dated October 19, 2026, on the same matter.
