The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr William Amankrah Appiah, and the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Kwamena Owusu-Nketiah, to step aside amid investigations into sexual misconduct allegations against the headmaster of Obuasi SHTS, Zakaria Abdulai.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, GES said the two directors must step aside with immediate effect to allow the investigation to proceed without interference or the perception of interference.
They have been directed to hand over their offices and all state property in their possession to the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Thomas Kwame Boateng.
GES also clarified that Abdulai remains interdicted, urging the public to disregard reports suggesting that he had been cleared of the allegations.
The development comes as investigations into the allegations against the headmaster continue.
GES management has called for calm, support and cooperation from the public as it works to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
