Zakaria Abdulai has resigned as Juaben Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and withdrawn his bid to become the constituency chairman amid allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
In a letter dated October 20, 2026, Abdulai informed the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, that his resignation and withdrawal from the constituency chairmanship race would take immediate effect.
He expressed gratitude to friends, relatives and supporters who had maintained their faith in his innocence despite the allegations against him and his office.
Abdulai also thanked the NDC for the opportunity to serve as a member and party officer, describing it as a privilege to contribute to the party’s growth and development.
He said he would now focus on pursuing lawful means to clear his name and defend his position.
“At this time, I intend to devote my attention and resources to pursuing all lawful avenues to clear my name and vindicate my position,” he wrote.
Abdulai added that he remained hopeful of returning to active political engagement after the issues had been resolved.
His decision comes after the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee directed him to step aside from the constituency chairmanship contest to allow the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the allegations without interference.
The party said its decision was intended to promote transparency and accountability and did not amount to a determination of the merits of the allegations against him.
