Voting for the Women’s Organiser and Organiser positions in the Nkwanta South Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Oti Region has been partially suspended following concerns over discrepancies in electoral materials.
The suspension follows a change to the ballot paper arrangement and the omission of incumbent Women’s Organiser candidate Celestine Abasa’s name from the voters’ register.
Madam Abasa said she was initially listed as the second candidate on the ballot paper, but the arrangement was later changed without adequate explanation. She also raised concerns about her absence from the voters’ register.
The discrepancies have unsettled some of her supporters, who fear the issues could affect her chances in the election.
Elections Director Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal has appealed to delegates and supporters to remain calm while officials work to resolve the concerns.
He said voting for the other positions would continue while the issues affecting the Women’s Organiser contest were addressed.
Oti Regional Organiser Sulemana Mumuni has also urged delegates and supporters to exercise restraint as the necessary corrections are made.
About 1,484 delegates are expected to participate in the constituency elections.
