The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to remove Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over the government’s spending on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
The party’s National Youth Organiser, Abanga Yakubu, made the call after the NPP’s “Yɛgyɛ Yɛ Sika” demonstration in Accra.
He urged the President to direct the Foreign Affairs Minister to publish the names of people who benefited from the evacuation exercise, arguing that doing so would promote transparency and accountability.
Damongo MP Abu Jinapor also told Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim that the NPP would use parliamentary processes to seek the minister’s removal.
He accused Ablakwa of making statements that misled Ghanaians about the evacuation exercise.
Muslim received the protesters’ petition on behalf of the Presidency. She acknowledged receipt and assured them that their concerns and demands would be communicated to the appropriate authorities as presented.
The NPP’s demands come amid questions about the amount spent on the evacuation and the identities of the Ghanaians who benefited from the exercise.
