Management of the University of Ghana (UG) has urged students planning to demonstrate over accommodation and other welfare concerns to suspend the protest following engagements between university management and the organisers.
In a notice dated Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs said Professor Rosina Kyerematen, the Dean of Student Affairs, had met with the group to discuss their concerns.
Management assured the students of its commitment to addressing their immediate, medium-term and long-term needs, including accommodation challenges.
Following the discussions, the organisers were advised to suspend the planned demonstration while further engagements with university authorities and other stakeholders continue.
“The Dean of Student Affairs has subsequently engaged the group on their concerns and assured them of Management's commitment to addressing the immediate, middle-term, and long-term needs of students; including accommodation,” the notice stated.
The university also reminded students and student groups to follow established procedures when raising grievances, in line with regulations governing junior members of the institution.
As part of efforts to improve student welfare, the Office of Student Affairs is working with various university units, including the Student Financial Aid Office and the Careers and Counselling Directorate.
These offices are expected to support students facing financial and other welfare challenges while helping maintain a peaceful learning environment on campus.
The planned protest follows growing concerns over accommodation affordability at the university, particularly after students raised objections to reported increases in fees at some halls and facilities managed by the University of Ghana Enterprise Limited.
